Would one of our esteemed veterans of the mmj battle please prepare a list of commonly used abreviations and anacronyms and their definitions to post here for the edification of those not in the know?

Maybe pin it here?

thanx, http://www.oregongreenfree.us/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bigemo_harabe_net-179.gif

Hey Mr. AlphaMale this is a great idea. I will start compling my list for future posting. My military and government experiences have taught me, that you are only as smart as the language you can speak and understand; and the world~of~cyberspace and the ability to express yourself on this flat~screen makes it even harder sometimes to say what you mean.

Truly,

As an English major and major geek, I have to say an "anacronym" would be a name that is inappropriate for a period of time. Like calling the comics the "funny papers" in 2006.

See you in the funny papers!

-Dave

PS - Yes, fellow English geeks, it would be spelled "anacHronym." It's just a joke; please don't fret.

OGF = Oregon Green Free
BM = Black Market or Bowel Movement
OSBB = Orange Skunk Big Bud
PM = Powdery Mildew thanks justdave

PM = Powdery Mildew[/b]PM also equals "Personal Message." A lot of communication goes on person-to-person rather than with a whole forum, so somebody will say "I sent you those directions in PM," meaning not "Powdery Mildew" but "Personal Message." http://www.oregongreenfree.us/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif (See "# New Messages" up there on the upper right.)

Hey I've got a much simpler idea. How about just NOT use abbreviations as a coutesy to all. Maybe it could be noted on one of the welcome pages concerning online etiquette.

Reality, no. Nobody is going to type out the names of every organization, strain, and chemical we deal with. It's a very informal medium (see the bouncing happy faces all over the place), not a peer-reviewed journal. We should be tolerant of people asking what the heck abbreviations and initialisms mean (I think we are tolerant of that and a lot more), but I disagree that we'd consider using those shortcuts a breach of netiquette.
