My mother-in-law's doctor prescribed marinol and mmj for her today. She is very ill with cancer. At what point would it be legal for me and/or my caregiver to give her meds? Since she has been prescribed it already, does she have to send in the paperwork before it's legal?

Yes to be legal she has to registrar with DHS . . .

To be absolutely safe she should have the application turned in.
The best way is to take it into the DHS office in Portland and they will give you a receipt and stamped copies of your paperwork.
Or is you mail it do it registered mail with a return receipt. Once in the mail she is legal.

And keep in mind that her doctor didn't "prescribe" her medical cannabis: the doctor only said that "marijuana may relieve her symptoms". And as the two fine gentlemen above me mentioned, she's only "legal" when the paperwork is filled out and stamped by DHS, or you have a mail reciept...

Hi, Guys - Yes, those Admins are CORRECT. We make EVERY attempt to be COMPLETELY LEGAL HERE.....of course, any of us...who might want to....can act independently....to reach out and help others....
Would be glad to help in in any I can - we have had several of our Patients here in that circumstance; we try to help them as much as we can....
Best of Luck - let us know when we can help. xx CaringCat :sleaf:

That's what I thought, I was just a little confused because they gave me meds at the last clinic I attended and I hadn't mailed my paperwork yet. She should be coming home from Medford today or tomorrow with a written note from her oncologist, I will help get paperwork off asap. She needs it bad, she's so sick from not eating that she has to keep getting admitted for iv fluids. I've been trying for awhile to get her to try mmj but she wouldn't until the dr gave her the ok to do so.

Actually, you can help by telling me what is the best way to administer her meds. Is there a way to make a tincture that doesn't take an entire month to be ready? I honestly can't see her smoking (although I'll try to get her)...I was going to make cannamilk for her, but that tastes so awful I'm afraid it will make her wretch. If there's a "quicky tincture" recipe out there, I'd love to have it.

May I suggest that you post your request in the Medical forum or the Recipe forum, the latter may be the best.
There are many ways to use Medical Cannabis. If you post in those forums you will get a lot of information that can be beneficial. In this forum it would be lost.
From hash suppositories to keif tinctures there will be recipes.
I wish her good healing.
BTW the clinic that gave you medicine is a very touchy subject with the LAW. I feel that you had your physicians' signature on the application, and you are legal. BUT that is NOT the way LEO will always see it necessarily.

butter is fast and can be added to many things
as for the registered mail that Mr. Fixit talked of? good idea but use certified mail instead. Registered is much more expensive and the only advantage is the ability to insure at a higher level and it is signed for every time it changes hands. This is for precious gems and irreplaceable paper..proving ownership of songs or?? are done this way too but that is due to the seal they put on the envelope which proves when the contents where put in without being able to take it out or change it.
sorry, long winded but a certified receipt is evidence in a court of law guarantied and much cheaper
certified with return receipt and you're cool.

I was searching for just such a thing today. Good thoughts to you and your family. :)
