~Warm joyful wishes~

Whelp when my outdoor stuff got ripped I wanted to call the police then. Without positive idea of who did it and a few other variables I didn't. Today I had a feeling something was gonna happen. I went to the store for groceries to start cooking for Thanksgiving. Was almost done and my son called me. The thief broke a window while he was in the shower and came in the house. My son came out of the shower to face this tweaked out person. The guy grabbed a bunch of herb that was waiting to be trimmed stuffed it in a bag and left as my son was yelling at him.

We called the police gave the guys name and all info Kevin Whisner is the guys name.

Police were very nice they are coming back to take pictures of the broken window.

This sucks!!! People breaking in my house while my son is home alone!!!

Oooooooo lets bring up the subject in this thread about reasonable cost???? How much is it worth to have your family safe???

I should be able to be reimbursed for all I go through in growing this herb. I should be able to hire a security system to keep us safe.

Shabad, I feel for you

once a growsite is compromised, can we expect it to happen again and again?

once you are ripped off, is that like a neon sign to the criminal side that X marks the spot ?

loose lips
criminal clips

growroom not secure
criminals procure

Procure = to bring about, esp. by unscrupulous and indirect means

Shabad, I hope the police can take care of this for you. What a bummer.

Until it is re/unscheduled we will not be safe. Being paid to grow will not increase your safety though - I think it would actually decrease it as you would be "putting yourself out there" more to advertise. Like HazyDayz said about the loose lips thing... donate privately off the public boards for safety.

Also, HazyDays - I just looked up procurement on dictionary .com, I never knew that's what it meant exactly, I always thought of it more in the sense of a restaurant ordering from suppliers. I was wrong and feel stupid as I used it in another thread - http://www.oregongreenfree.us/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blush.gif .

Thats the shi*s to hear Shabad.

I would hope to think that growsite security could be factored into your grow expense, but what's next?Armed guards?I'd think a pitbull would be cheaper.

Hello Shabad,
This is the 2nd time in the same day that I totally agree with you...YES security is part of the COG's (cost of goods) since it is directly related to prevention of inventory shrinkage, as what happened to you. I have found that a fully trained doberman with a companion BIG black lab works wonders for security. Yes they are expensive to keep, but are a beauty to watch in action.
They do not make very good vegitarians, but, if'n you have folks diving in the windows they will get their fill of good ass meat. Now you know why it is impossible to produce at $30/z. The COG's alone are much much higher.
Get yourself some kind of security...it is worth every $$$$ spent.

Yeah the way we figured out the name is my son recognised him as he was coming through the window. He was determined and came in even with my son standing there yelling at him! Tweaked out!

Yeah my golden lab just wagged her tail. If she's cornerd she'll be agressive thats about it.

Kind Healing Thoughts sent YOUR way, dear Friend ~

You are such a nice person, we all hate to hear about this terrible thing....

Yet, it may provide a lesson.....better to fix problems before they happen!
This may just be a sign to tell you to keep your eyes open to new situations where you might be better insulated. We all value you ( & those Cookies! LOL! http://www.oregongreenfree.us/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile_anim.gif) so very much...we are sorry you had to go thru this. It reminds me tho...of that old Chinese saying:

Thankful for Friends like YOU!Cat

I am so sorry for what your son went through. Poor guy. I would have been so scared.
When reading this, the first thing that came to my mind, was that you need a watchdog. I guess many of you feel the same way.
You already have a large dog, but he is pretty laid back eh?
If you were to get a small dog, say a terrier (they are very protective) your mellow larger dog would follow his lead, and you would have a great security team. And you wouldn't have to have another large dog to mess up the yard or feed. (Well, lol, you will have to feed the little dog too...hehehe, but I'm sure you know what I meant)

I also have to agree with Misstokie and Rastamama regarding the big Dog little Dog theory.

I grew up with that scenerio and man the little dog will get that big dogs confidence fired up etc etc. They become a really neat natures team. http://www.oregongreenfree.us/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif

Man, I feel for ya Shabad! That's one of the reasons I left the big city. But, now that I have said that.........with meth/crack heads everywhere, that can happen anywhere.

I just finished building a secure, covert grow room. It's kinda like a "panic room" but with hidden access. I am banking on my crop being secure and thrivin' (as long as the electricity keeps flowin').

My prayers are with you!

Yep, the dog thing really works. Here is our team. Meet Gangus and The Biscuit, they take their job very seriously. This is them wrestling together, it looks bad, but they are just at play. But I'm telling ya, the little terrier is the lead. And he has a 147 lb. back up, who just loves to play follow the leader.
Proven security!

PS. I won a photo contest with this photo http://www.oregongreenfree.us/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif
PSS. Gangus is NOT a lab. He is a mix of rott, huskey, dingo, and chow. Very powerfull!

GREAT PHOTOS, Shabad this type of team would help!!

Or if we can guess when the thief is going to hit again, we could invite over like 200-300 OGFers over to your house and when he comes in we can give him a BIG SUPRISE PARTY http://www.oregongreenfree.us/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bigemo_harabe_net-179.gif

Most importantly and formost I am so relieved that your son is alright. Nothing is worth our well being and safety.

I would think though that if your son knew the guy perhaps you might realize that you no longer should be a provider. Obviously your family has let it be known that you are a grower. I would think that logically you should expect that that person (the thief) is NOT the only one who knows about your growing. I would either move or stop growing altogether and get yourself a caregiver. Then when you are in the position of being a patient ask yourself the same question you put out there to all of us: How much should the price of security be added onto the other expenses of growing. I do not think there are many patients out there that can pay much more than $30 an oz which is what my provider charges. I do not mean to sound unsympathetic to you but obviously if you got ripped off prior (outdoor and it could of been the smell so was that from a lack of security?) To have your medicine ripped off again I think strengthens the fact that you all have a compromised site and should stop growing. As a parent I certainly would not want that possibility of ever happening again to my children.

I have done volunteer work with the Compassion Center and I have seen first hand many patients who like myself are on very limited income. I do not think it is right in your situation to even consider having your patients absorb your loss. They have lost also.

If you are not a provider I apologize for this then would not apply to you. I am responding because I was concerned for your son's safety, for your loss and lastly because of your question regarding raising your prices for security expenses.

peace and harmony

shabad and misstokie,
Forget the small dog...all they do is bark. Dogs are like the plants you all grow. Dogs are breed and have genes to do a specific task. Excellet guard dogs include Doberman Pinchers, German Shepards, Rottweillers. It is a natural to "GUARD" for these dogs and does not need much training to do so.
So ya can have a yapper or you can have a dog that actually does the deed and works !
I have a black lab that is a companion for the Dobbie's, and the lab is the friendliest dog in town...if ya have a treat for her she will open the door and let ya in....the dobbies on the other hand, NO WAY .

Yes, another dog with more Umph, or even a little yapper, would make bad folks think twice. But you have been marked. Now they know right where to go, the asses. Good luck with a bad problem.

There is no dog more loyal than an American Pitbull Terrier. APBT's are the most loyal dog u can ever own. Always watching. And I mean always. Those dogs watch in their sleep. November 24th, 2006, 06:42 PM
now maybe we just happen to be lucky, but we've been ripped off once (it was minor; a dying plant that had been put outside was stolen over the summer) and no one has ever come back. it's helpful that we don't grow outdoors (that one plant was a rare case) and that our indoor grow is literally in the center of the house, with only one (covered) window. we have no dogs, but perhaps thieves just can't tell if the house is empty. (there are 4 adults living here, plus countless friends stopping by frequently.)

that being said, i am always concerned for the safety of the children here, ALWAYS. with dead bolts bolted, windows locked, and maybe a few fencing swords and a baseball bat handy, our house isn't exactly one that boasts fancy security systems.

it's sobering to hear of this happening, especially when it's a friend. i think we could all stand to re-evaluate what we have going on. understanding that not everyone can get a dog (expences, allergies, location, etc.)

here's some hope for everyone's continued safety!

Sorry to hear about this Shabad !
I do belive a security system is in order & dont see why it wouldn't be a reinburseable expence.
I disagree with the "its not right to pass this on to your patiants post" a security system cost a couple hundred $ to install & about $20 a month for moninitering .I would think $20 a month as a patiant , it would be worth it to know my meds arn't going to be stolen..... the cost of security is much cheaper than trying to replace them on the black market........
