There's some disturbing news about marijuana use among teens. A new study from the White House is linking the drug to violence and even gang membership.
Marijuana is often regarded as a "soft drug" in comparison to others like meth, cocaine and heroin, but the study shows it can lead young people to harmful behaviors in the future.
The study says while fewer teens are using illegal drugs, they are trying marijuana at younger ages than ever before, sometimes as early as eleven years-old. It also says smoking pot makes it four times more likely that a child will become involved in a gang.
At the Coulee Council on Addictions headquarters, experts talk with teens who have been caught with marijuana or alcohol. They say it's normal for kids who do drugs to form their own groups and then continue their self-destructive habits.

Milk is a gateway drug...don't start drinkin' it...you won't have to worry 'bout doin' drugs.
"Kids n Pot, Pot n Kids...hell if it wasn't fer kids, I wouldn't have known where to get it!" Red Neckerson
So this study suggests that kids who don't smoke pot are less likely to be ganged up. I always wonder as to the methodology of the survey.
Where is the correlation?
The conclusion that mj "leads young people to harmful behavior in the future" is questionable. I will contend that the propensity to engage in harmful behavior does not start with mj, but long before that kid takes the first toke. Like in the cradle. Cradles lead young people to harmful behavior.

if'n it goes to the cradle, i suggest too long in a poopie diaper may be the real gateway to seeking relief from drugs...but seriously, everytime another state looks at mmj, legislates and/or passes we see a new surge of "reefer madness"...its a pattern and a simple search should bear this out....

we, the national medical/recreational cannabis consumers ARE living testimony that this IS a lie. how stupid do people have to be to buy this crap?
those who are lazy and use cannabis most likely already have/had a propensity towards no motivation/laziness to begin with, imho

I believe this is a great example of the confusion people have between association, and causality.
There was a study a few years ago that examined the rate of shark attacks on swimmers and surfers. Attack rates showed that there were much larger numbers of attacks in the summer, and so they postulated that sharks are more aggressive in summer months. For whatever reason, they didn't think that it might be that there are more swimmers when the water is warmer - which boggles the mind, when you think about it.
If you're in an environment where you're going to be smoking weed at 11, you bet you'll have a higher rate of violence and gang membership - because you live in a bad neighborhood! And maybe you'll be more eager to take the edge off of all the stress than someone who isn't seeing their friends or family getting knifed or shot.
There are times I really worry about scientists like this.

Well Grammy, the real problem starts when a parent allows their babies to suck a binkie...unabated ! Then obviously those kids need to suck on a joint, just to clear their mind of the binkies effect on their lebido !
If'n we take ALL binkies off the market, we can use MJ for its intended use. Makin' rope and clothes?
