Drug agents: Ocala man cites liver disease as reason for growing marijuana

OCALA - A 36-year-old man who reportedly told drug agents he grows marijuana for medical reasons because he suffers from liver disease was arrested Tuesday afternoon at a southwest Marion County home, where agents found 45 marijuana plants.
James Owen Gugel also told officials he uses the drug regularly and puts it in his food, according to an Ocala/Marion County Multi-Agency Drug Enforcement Team report.
Acting on a tip from the Drug Enforcement Administration, MADET agents went to 7860 S.W. 14th St. to speak with Gugel about whether he may be involved in growing marijuana. Gugel denied any involvement.
