Mendocino County Calls for Marijuana Legalization
http://imgsrv.kcbs.com/image/DbGraphic/200706/578807.jpgSAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- Mendocino County supervisors voted 4-1 in favor of seeking legalization as a way of regulating and taxing marijuana.
Supervisor Mike Delbar, who cast the lone dissenting vote, said he is not happy with the image Mendocino County is gaining. He added he is concerned about what will happen to local youths if they grow up seeing marijuana use and cultivation as normal.
Mendocino County is joining in a growing movement, according to Dale Gieringer of the California chapter of the National Organization for the Legalization of Marijuana.
"Mendocino County is adding itself to a list of California cities and local governments that have called for legalization of marijuana," he said.
Gieringer argues the nation’s “war on drugs” has failed and therefore should end.

I saw this earlier on dpfor. We really wish we could afford to move back there. How long will it take for OR?

Lobby your county supervisors. There's probably only 5 of them.

Here's a link to the Clackamas County Sup's. There's only 3 of them.

The three-member Board of Commissioners serves as the governing body which directs the general administration of County government. The Commissioners, each elected to four-year terms, set policies, enact ordinances and establish budgets to perform the services that state law and citizens of the County require. The Board manages an annual budget of more than $586 million and directs the work of about 1,890 employees.

Hi mama! :) I lived in Ukiah in the early 70s'. At that time Mendicino counties largest cash crop was grapes...mj a close second.
The sheriff was named Bartlome. He projected a tough western sheriff image, and you didn't want to mess w/ his Deputies...they were plenty big and plenty rough...wore gloves with hard metal knuckles!
They didn't worry much about recreational pot users. My ex bro-inlaw tended a big grow up in the mts by Boonville. He had hair to his ass, wore a breech cloth, sandals and a .357....slept in a hole in the ground during harvest.
I am not surprised the commissioners there voted in favor of this, half of them probably have $$$ in it! Mendocino County is a wonderful place! I loved it there! If it weren't for family ties here in Gods' Country, I would move there in a heart beat.
best always,
AM

revenue, talk revenue. you might be able to come up with something feasible by finding the county stats for cardholders x's a reasonable tax etc.....
excerpt from article
" Regulation and taxation are important components of the plan as well.
> Regulation would enable individual jurisdictions to choose whether or
> not they would allow the sale or consumption of the substance within
> their boundaries, Pinches said, citing the Jack Daniels Distillery,
> located in a dry Tennessee county, as a viable example.
> In addition, regulations similar to those put on alcohol, such as
> who can buy it, where it can be sold and the manner in which it can be
> consumed, could be applied to marijuana.
> And taxation on what Pinches said has been estimated as a $5
> billion annual crop in just Mendocino County would aid ailing government budgets.
> "Shouldn't our roads, and our law enforcement and our schools get
> some of the benefits of that?" Pinches said.

Grammy, maybe a step by step conversation guideline would help people here. I know what you mean, but for someone who has never called an official office before... I think we should have a help thread that helps people to write letters and make phone calls. Examples like the letter examples you have given me. What do you think?
AM...My heart and soul live in Humboldt County. My heart is still there in those mountains, somewhere up in a redwood right next to a madrone. Not a day goes by that I don't think of my beloved California. The only thing I like about Oregon is Oregongreenfree, and my friends here.:wub_anim:
