Oregon Medical Marijuana
What does that mean to you?

It means Oregon has the foresight to allow medical patients an option to the usual narcotics the docs dish out. It means 90 less xtra strength Lortabs a month, it means 60 less diazapam a month, and it means no compazine so that I can stomach the medicine.
It also means I am afforded a choice as to the type of medicine and treatment I feel is best for me. Does MMJ take away all my health issues, NO! It does not take away all of my pain. It makes it so I can manage my pain. MMj does not work on everything and everyone. Thankfully it works for me and thankfully I live in this great state of Oregon where folks have the courage to do things a little differently. B)

it means I don't have to take medicines that make me sick to make me "better". it means I have the right to choose the best course for my own medical care. and it means I'm not an outlaw.

It means
...Progress not Perfekshun
...improved health with minimal risk
...improved quality of life
...legal for cultivation, possession, and or use for medical purposes by licensed individuals
...Oregonians are compassionate and becoming educated
...Oregon elected officials are becoming educated
...I could try a new medicine that I may not have tried if it were illegal
...I could use my new medicine theraputically so I saw clinical results in my blood tests
...Becoming the leading state to look to for the most effective legislation (and everything that entails) for the good of the patient

It means:
Most importantly: Being FREE to make a choice in MY Health Care.
Being legal to grow or be in control of my own medication.
Having a theraputic, productive thing to do daily for myself, by gardening.
Functionability, Mobility, Less Swelling- Muscle spasms subside.
Severe Myofacial, Spinal pain & migraines are tollerable without the use of narcotics.
It elevates my mood, makes me more social, stimulates an appetite http://www.oregongreenfree.us/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif
helps me sleep & just plain ole makes life tollerable without all the scripts the Doctors would rather write.
To me Medical Marijuana Means "having a life"!

~Warm joyful wishes~
I remember the 1st year I had my medical card. Walking out of the State building with my reciept in hand. Wow I felt soooo good!!
Its shitty that I had to get sick to be able to use this herb legally!!
Ommp to me means; I need to be more active in keeping my rights and work harder to keep moving forward with the rights we now have to make them better!
Stay active. Write your representitives today "Reschedule" cannabis!

I couldn't even guess what it means to me. What if I never went back to school and became an artist? I never considered myself an Artist until someone told me I was. It's a big deal. It goes directly to my identity and self and sense of self-worth. I love myself. I love the art and music in myself.
I could be desperate in philadelphia right now with my life, spirit and psychy hanging on by strong but poorly insulated threads.
I could be (and was) illegal in Portland using Marijuana for my symptoms, and punishing myself for it in equal amounts to the quantity I used. I thought a was almost definietly killing braincells. I might have been. It was BM and unknown and I was smoking a lot of chemicals. I didn't know MMJ was at all theraputic. I just new it worked and wanted to use it despite my many many misgivings. I thought I was being weak willed for wanting to use it all the time. All the time was twice a week. (Now I would say a theraputic level at minimum is a "dose" of Cannaoil 3 times a day and 3 vape sessions a day. For a flair-up I just medicate one way or another every 2 hours. I try to go 3 hours.)
As you can see, I was against my own use of MMJ. This is for too many reasons to go into now. I didn't apply for a card until I had lived here 3 years. The impetous was Moving in with my sweetie and partner (the same person). I wanted her and her house to be legal. So then I was legal. YAY. But so what? I felt only the slightest emotional shift. I didn't use it much differently. I got a vaporizer right away. That's about it. I didn't send my paperwork in for 3 months because it was such a let-down. We were NOT going to grow. So the biggest reason for me to love OMM is OGF. Oh yeah. And for keeping me out of the hospital many times, no matter how crappy the pot was!! http://www.oregongreenfree.us/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif
Take this for what it is. My own personal experience. Like being an artist, MMJ is part of my identity and self-worth. I now choose to have cannabis in my system all of the time. It is part of the human I choose to be rather than the human I would be without it. I make this choice every day by my actions. This is a gib deal! My change in approach towards MMJ was direct result of the following:
1. Meeting my current caregiver through OGF. My first caregiver was ever so important. But she lived 5 hours away. My current caregiver and I see each other often and have a personal relationship. With her I was able to work out a daily system and acute system that works for me. However, I only became educated and experienced enough to allow this (and appreciate the hell out of it) by-
2. Reading the mad ramblings of all of you people!! Meeting some of you helped as well. http://www.oregongreenfree.us/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif
I am glad I ended up where I am.

That sums it up in a nutshell.
Being able to eat again, and not puke it back up 10 minutes later.
Being able to handle my vertigo attacks with grace, and not panicing.

medical cannabis means that my quality of life has greatly improved. i am unable to tolerate the side effects of traditional prescription pain relievers/medication. when the OMMA first passed in 1998, i didnt think i qualified. by 2001 i decided it was time to try due to an intolerable increase in my pain level. i was delighted to learn that my pain was exactly the "chronic pain" they had listed. words cannot express my gratitude to be able to participate in this program, to be able to titrate the dosage to suit my particular needs. my pain is not the same everyday so for me it is a luxury to be able to only use what is needed, when its needed, to relieve my particular pain level/type each day. the "controled and standardized" medications out there that are marketed to the masses have never suited my system at even the lowest/smallest doses and so often i have gotten so very ill from being "overdosed" from prescriptions.
like others, being responsible for decisions concerning my health is very important.

http://www.oregongreenfree.us/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blush.gif My wife and I would like to say "Thank You" to everyone who has helped us so much, especially, since the death of our son last year...
We have been in this program for awhile now, and have seen many changes... We've tried different caregivers, tried growing ourselves, to no avail... Some special people here, have helped us keep a really decent quality of life... There are not enough words to express our graditude...
We know how much it costs to start a garden, and grow medicine, just for yourself... That's what makes the help we've gotten, all the more precious...
We have been able to help, and even care for others... With donations of leaf and trim from generous members, that we turn into medibles for those who cannot, or, prefer to eat their meds...
The question was, what does this mean to us? Someone recently asked how we could possibly be there emotionaly, for all 6 of our girls....
The answer, believe it or not, MMJ... My wife and I were too spaced out, or, too sick on pharmacuticals to be of much good to ourselves.... Let alone our kids... Then, we invested in the Healing Power of this herb, and stopped the pills... The change was remarkable!!!
These past 4 years, our children have learned, along with us, about this wonderfully healing medicine.... We are more attentive and have more patience now then ever before... We see and can deal with problems, before they really become problems... There is always someone ready, to give whatever is required, without our lives being dictated by pain... What a wonderful quality of life we all share now together...
Thank You Again, you KNOW who you are!!! We here at the tribe appreciate everything, and everyone, this site has brought into our lives... We have grown and learned about ourselves, our children, and others who suffer, just as we do...
Peace and Well Being to you all...

To me it means my mother in law has gained almost 15 lbs (from 90 lbs to 105lbs); as well we no longer have to watch her eat (before mmj she had no appetite and gave most of her food to our dog behind our backs).
It means she is no longer in a stupor created by the pain meds (which she refused to take anyway).
It means when we all go out for brunch or wherever, she can get through an afternoon with as little pain as possible(when taking pills she would refuse to leave the house)
It means her occasional dips into depression can be lifted easily by just sitting with her and sharing a bowl.
It means her quality of life has improved; which in turn has improved the quality of mine and my wife's life as well.
It means that since she started using mmj (at 74 years old) her blood pressure has dropped dramatically (so much so that since starting, her doctor has dropped her prescription in half. In fact she would end up in the hospital about once a year for problems ralating to high blood pressure. Since mmj (over 2 years ago) she has not been in the hospital once.

I have had migraine headaches since I was in 7th grade; I am now 36 years old. I have tried everything, and I mean everything to make these horrible headaches go away. (The last pill cocktail the doctors had me on sent me into a period of self isolation.) The only thing that has helped to prevent and reduce the pain and nausea from my migraines is cannabis. I have been illegally taking cannabis as my medication for about 18 years and am finally legal! :D YIPPEE!! (I still cannot comprehend this fact.)
I would like to thank everyone who has helped make the medical marijuana program possible!! I would also like to thank my new friends from OGF West for “taking me in” and making me feel welcome right away! :wub_anim:

Liberating.
Therapeutic cannabis is the only medication that works.
Gardening is therapy in and of itself.

What does the program mean to me......
I got on the program after a head injury 4-5 or something years ago. I have had medical problems since 6 months old. I tried ALL those other medications that left me with horrible side effect, damage to my internal organs and down right miserable!
I still have my medical problems, like most of us these are a life time thing, but at least now these "symptoms" can be some what controlled with out those nasty side effects.

It means Oregon reluctantly has allowed me to ,with limited to no protection legaly, use the medicine I have used for 32 years. All for the piddling cost of 200$ to my dr. and another 100 to the state each year I can grow a paltry amount of a weed consigned to rampantly fill the ditches of the midwest.
I also am able to help others in the same situation to a very limited extent. That is what the "program" has done. If you wish to know what the medicine has done that should possibly be another thread. But for myself I am not spending over 2500$ a month in meds and am still able to work, despite doctors saying I can't considering my medical history. FEH!
So to sum up what I feel the OMMP has done for me is marginaly legitimize my medical choices while imposing rediculous restrictions on my medicine of choice without any medical data on my oral use or what is necessary to produce adequate medicine for myself and those I am responsible to. I saw great hope in the original incarnation of the OMMP( Dear Kelly we do miss you). I have seen desparation since it has been "improved".
