:( My primary physician at the Portland Veterans Administration Hospital is doing research on medical marijuana. While she is skeptical she also referred me to an outside physician for my med card. So,knowing that within our midst dwells folks who are of the scientific method and mind,I would like as much data that I can get in support of MMj as a valid medical alternative.I believe my Doc is sincere and will give us an opp to supply valid, conclusive data to the federal system. Thanks all in advance. A lot of good studies have come out. Last year, a study out of the University of Bonn discovered the purpose of the CB2 receptor, which is to regulate calcium uptake, usage and bone density. There were several studies about Alzheimer's and mmj that showed that mmj helped Alzeheimer's patients remember to eat ( frequently a problem) and that THC inhibits the uptake of amyloid salts as well as attacking the fatty build-ups that charachterize Alzheimer's. There was also a study last summer that said that THC helped to preserve a chemical critical to brain function that is usually deteriorated by Alzheimer's better than 80% of the available pharmaceutical drugs.
The largest study ever conducted with the purpose of linking lung cancer to heavy or moderate marijuana use found that there is no causal link between lung cancer and marijuana use. In fact, marijuana smokers were far less likely to get lung cancer than non-smokers confirming other research that said that THC inhibits the uptake of carcinogens.
There have already been 6 federally sponsored medical marijuana studies comparing smoked marijuana to other antiemetics including Marinol, and all (except the Tennessee study where patients dropped out due to disapproval from relatives) found that 90% of patients responded better to smoked marijuana than to Marinol. In the Tennessee study, 70% of patients found better relief fron smoked marijuana than from any other antiemetic.

TEX, is there a form or research data sheet to be filled out? How and what info will the Dr. be wanting. I have wanted a study of daily users since the 70's.
More than willing to help in any way I can.

Here are some places to start:
"Marijuana Myths, Marijuana Facts" By Lynn Zimmer Ph.D. and John Morgan M.D.
Google:
Dr. Ethan Russo
Dr. Lester Grinspoon (Marihuana Reconsidered)
Dr. Todd Mikuriya
Other resources include: medicalcannabis.org
and I believe we have a running thread on the ICMM here on OGF. Sequoia can prolly help you out there.
You also could PM (I just had to research some of this myself) and I could share some info.
;) Daniel
