What can we do to develope an educational program about the OMMP that makes the distinctions between mmj patients and "marijuana abusers"? One of the concerns of the Domino Effect writers was that the "OMMP sends mixed messages to kids". I feel that the mmj community should address this issue head-on and teach kids as much as we know about mj and mmj, making it clear that responsible use is only under the supervision of a doctor and for very serious conditions. We should do some sort of presentation that we could do at assemblies. What do you all think?

this is where I have a hard time.....

I really don't believe the statement that cannabis is good for only serious conditions and should only be used under a doctor's care, I could not look my kids in the eye and tell them that either. What I do believe is that it is a very necessary herbal medicine for some conditions and I would never want to jeapordize it for those who need it this way with a legalization push at the patient's expense or careless legislation. I think we might even do some harm to our case though as portraying it as something that needs to be carefully monitored by a doctor for only very serious conditions.

I went with my son to a court ordered program called "up in smoke" and it was really pretty good, they educated about cannabis without demonizing it. Surprisingly they didn't even really try any scare tactics or lie. Of course all the kids there were up on their cannabis facts and contributed greatly to the discussion.

How about: "Under Oregon law mj use is only allowed for serious conditions..."

I think this is an excellent thread, and an excellent idea, currently we are preparing information to be presented for a grant from a local highschool to teach harm reduction for all drugs. With the latest FDA report, and the high rate of abuse for prescription and over the counter (cough medicines) drugs, kids (and adults) need to be educated about the dangers of the "safe drugs" that kill more than all of the scary illegal drugs combined (including the 0 that die from cannabis on a yearly basis). I don't think that the OMMP needs to be singled out, and the DE writers are the first that we need to educate, but don't worry we got somebody on that as well ;) .
We could always use more imput, and I would love to talk to y'all about education outreach and medical outreach as well (they would really work well together)
Hope everyone is safe and healthy this holliday season.
ONE LOVE
Daniel
