I was just down to the OMMP office yesterday to drop off patient renewal forms and asked the person handling it how many current cardholders there were. She said she didn't have a good number at the moment, but that she did know that so far for the year 2007, there are 15,000+ NEW applications!:spaceman: These are applications that are in processing, that have been denied, and have been approved.

WHAT AN INCREDIBLE YEAR FOR MEDICAL MARIJUANA!!:thumbsup2:

The program has pretty much doubled every year since inception. Imagine what would happen if we did a little outreach to the cancer and Alzheimer's communities. After all, there are 18,000 cancer patients diagnosed every year in Oregon. And 71,000 Alzheimer's patients.

With all due respect, the program has not doubled each year or else everyone in the state would be a patient by now.

OMMP Statistics as of 10/1/07

Number of patients currently holding cards 14,831

Number of pending applications on October 1, 2007* 3,125
(12,00 new since the 1st of Oct? Don't think so)

*Pending applications include all new and renewal applications waiting for initial staff review after being received, "incomplete" applications, and all application files waiting for receipt of a signed and dated attending physician "verification" letter.

The truth of the matter is that the program has somewhat stabilized with regard to numbers. Check the numbers for 2004-2007. Not much change at all.
So... as StoneyGirl says, "Imagine what would happen if we did a little outreach to the cancer and Alzheimer's communities."
Let's do that!

You have to remember that pending means NOT APPROVED. There haven't been 12,000 new applications since Oct. 1st, but there were THOUSANDS of others that WERE APPROVED earlier in the year that bring the TOTAL for the year to 15,000+ Applications.

As of Oct. 1st there were 3,125 sitting in their office.....I know mine was in there on September 5th and I didn't get my card until December 5th. That said, I can definitely see how it is at 15,000+ on the year.
